Mr Sakitumi
Sean Ou Tim
Mr Sakitumi aka Sean Ou Tim is one of South Africa's most prolific music-makers. A founding member of the seminal hip-hop band Max Normal - playing drums, keyboards and samplers – the musical core of Sakitumi, DJ Sibot and bassist Mark Buchanan continued their collaboration as the hip-hop/jazz ensemble Chromoscience after the dissolution of the group in 2002 by frontman Waddy Jones. Other projects include Closet Snare, the Cape Town jazz supergroup headed by drummer Kesivan Naidoo, as well as collaborations with some of the most important acts in contemporary South African music, including Lark, Gazelle, Johnny Clegg, Goldfish, Freshlyground, Godessa and Teba.
A classically-trained pianist with a mastery over turntables and samplers, drums, bass and guitar – Mr Sakitumi is a one man music machine, supplemented on the visual side by his wife and frequent collaborator Inka Kendzia aka The Grrrl (VJ). He is currently working on his long-overdue solo album, to be released on African Dope Records.
